Thursday morning a Valley, Ala., police officer was injured in an automobile accident.

The department did not release his name.

It was about 8:30 a.m. The officer was responding to the report of a reckless driver when he failed to negotiate a curve on U.S. 29 in the Langdale Community and lost control of his vehicle.

The squad car, a Ford Crown Victoria, began to slide on the wet roadway caused by the morning rain, and entered Moore's Creek, causing damage to the vehicle in excess of its total value.

The officer, who was taken to George H. Lanier Hospital, sustained injuries to his head and leg. He was released.

The Alabama State Patrol will investigate the accident.
